Porto Formoso factory produces organic tea on the beautiful island of S. Miguel, in the Azores Islands.
The factory has a long history, having been active from the 1920s to the 1980s. In 2001, the current owners gave it new life and the factory now produces four types of organically certified tea.
Porto Formoso teas are obtained from the Camellia sinensis tea plant and include the following types of black tea:
- Orange Pekoe: obtained from the terminal bud and first leaf of the shoot.
- Pekoe: comes from the second leaf and has a less pronounced taste and aroma than the orange pekoe.
- Broken Leaf: results from the third leaf and particles from the remaining leaves.
- Azores Home Blend: it’s the first tea of the year and contains all the leaves of the shoot.
Porto Formoso tea is rich in vitamins and minerals. But its benefits don’t stop here. It has antioxidant power due to its high content of flavonoids, which contributes to the reduction of the aging of the cells. It helps with the digestion and the reduction of the cholesterol in the blood, hydrates, reduces the fatigue, increases the alertness and improves the concentration.
