Sociedade Portuguesa para o Estudo das Aves

SPEA – Sociedade Portuguesa para o Estudo das Aves (Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds) – was founded on November 25th, 1993 and works daily to protect Portuguese birds and the unique habitats on which they depend.

With the help of their members, volunteers and partners, they monitor the condition of birds, build nests, remove invasive species, fight for better laws, combat crimes against the environment, and much, much more. 70% of profits are invested in nature conservation and environmental education.

Since 1999, SPEA has been the Portuguese partner of BirdLife International, an international network of environmental organizations that operates in more than 100 countries. SPEA has been recognized as a public utility entity since 2012.

SPEA also belongs to Coligação C7, which brings together the seven largest environmental organizations in Portugal to defend the environment and fight for sustainable policies.
